The Tarsier Experience

/ Wednesday, February 8, 2012 /

DID YOU KNOW?

They are not actually monkeys, they are PRIMATES
They spend their entire lives on tress which makes them arboreal.
Hunts during the night as they usually sleep during the day
Their normal color? GREY.

On their feet are two grooming claws, not one like most animals ..
have you ever seen the hands and feet of tarsiers up close?

When a female gives birth it is to a single offspring.
A pregnancy lasts for approximate 180 days or six months. Lifespan is 12-22 years old.
Their diet that consists of mainly insects and they do have to be live to be eaten.
Favorite dish may be mosquitoes.

Big eyes gives them a  very acute night vision which makes them good hunters during the dark.
Big ears can move in the direction of any noise and their heads can swivel through 180 degrees.
This all helps to hunt efficiently.

Their eyes are large they are fixed into their sockets unlike human.
Hence they need to be able to move their neck and head instead instead of their eyes.
Their neck is especially adapted so that can turn their head 300 degrees.

Tarsiers cannot walk on land, but if they happen to find themselves on land, they actually hop back to trees. They are sensitive creatures, prone to depression when alone. If they become unhappy it is said that they commit suicide by banging their heads on something hard like cage bars.

Bohol City tour

WELCOMETOBOHOLCITY!
Oh  BOHOL!  The first thing that comes into my mind when i hear about this city is the classic Chocolate Hills. Secondly, the well-renowned eye-popping small creatures we call Tarsiers.

TOP 5 THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT THIS CITY:
1. When you reach Bohol and you spend time here as tourist, you will ofcourse ask what are the delicacies that is found/made uniquely in Bohol. The two most recommended would always be PEANUT KISSES and CALAMAY.

 2. Boholanos pride themselves in making crafts

3. CHOCOLATE HILLS
Have you ever wondered how many hills there really are? 1,268 chocolate hills. The Chocolate Hills are probably Bohol's most famous tourist attraction. The hills are covered in green grass that turns brown during the dry season, giving them the name ''Chocolate Hills. Referred as Jewels of the Philippines, this is located in Carmen, Bohol, an approximately an hour and a half away from they city proper.

At the top of the hill, you can also see there are a lot of things and food you can buy. It might be more pricey though. Ooops. :) If you plan to buy souvenirs it will be best to buy in the city where price range of shirts and goods would be net price more or less. On the average, shirt souvenirs are sold for P220. You can, however see same shirts that will cost you less in Loboc River stalls which gave me shirts priced at P190.

And of course, a vacation and tourist spot would not be complete without the oh so friendly vendors of glam! Here in the picture below was a last minute capture but i just had to take a shot because i love the colors of all the jewelries that they sell!
4. Hanging Bridge

Across the upper part of the Loboc River in Bohol is a hanging bamboo bridge that is a major tourist attraction. Located in the municipality of Sevilla, Bohol, the 'Sipatan Haging Bridge' more commonly known for the name of Hanging Bridge of Bohol is more or less 40 meters long which crosses the Sipatan River.

Composed of Bamboos and hardened steels which was initially used by locals to cross the river to the other side, it hangs approximately 25 meters above the water and it sways back and forth as you pass! It seems to me that the bridge was moving against my steps and feels like i was in an action movie the whole time! I had to rush to the other side of the rope because we were in a hurry that time. Good thing my sister was able to capture some memorable pictures to freeze those 'fear factor' moments!

5.  Bilar Man-made Forest (drive thru)

In the 1960's, a nationwide reforestation program was launched by the government under, then president, Diosdado Macapagal. It was actually spearheaded by then governor Lino Chatto,  that thousands of Mahogany seedlings were to be planted on a cleared area of 857.4 hectares in Bilar and Loboc towns.

The lush green forest is being enjoyed by everyone who passes through it. Thousands of Mahogany trees can be seen here in Bilar's Man-made Forest along the road as you travel to Chocolate Hills. A sidetrip can be refreshing as the ambience is cool and peaceful.

Zamboanga Trip!

YEEEY! I'm super excited to share my escapades and everything that happened during our trip. So we had scheduled a flight on January 27-30, 2012, bound to Zamboanga. Zamboanga as a peninsula holds sway as the Diadem of the Philippine South. By Diadem i mean being a royalty crown down south. Also known as the Little Spain in our country, this Asia's Latin City is the only city where you will hear Chabacano, that lilting delightful patois that's 70% Spanish with the rest a mixture of other dialects! Amazing! Whenever i hear the people here talk and more so while hearing mass, you would find it difficult to distinguish the Spanish words from the others!

Patron Saint of Zamboanga City: Nuestra Señora del Pilar
Metropolitan Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception - (Founded: 1816)
The Muslims have been an integral part of Zamboanga City since the beginning. Before any other religions were practiced in Zamboanga City, The Muslim religion already had a firm hold of the area.

At night Paseo del Mar is well lit and usually there are police officers around for security.the bajao kids in their bancas paddle along the breakwater walkways and entice the visitors to throw coins into the sea water. It's fun to watch the badjaos dive and fetch the coin before it hits bottom. :)

Pasonanca Boy Scout Teepees. There are several teepees in the campground for camping. This campground is often visited by many scouting groups in the area.  It is renowned as a tourist attraction. The boy scout of the Philippines has one of it's training centers located here.

We also visited one of the tourist spots known as Vista del Mar. We planned to swim here and enjoy the sun however the it is not highly recommended because the beach front and even the shallow part of the water is bombarded with rocks and filled with sea weeds. Not the ideal type. We enjoyed the scenery and the peaceful waves that comes with the experience though.

ART Sketches

/ /

I like to share to you one of the sketches i did while waiting for the plane to touchdown. This brings me back to my core interest of drawing!

It's not a living, it's a fun way to live. That's how i see myself whenever i do art and portraits. I never had the chance to enroll in an art class and be taught by a professional artist; which gets me excited because I'm planning to be mentored by one soon!

My love for painting too  will soon compel you with fascination (okay that was an exaggeration), but i know for sure it will enthrall you, if not completely persuade you to do some art too. :)

For now, I'm sharing to you bits and pieces of my persona and as days go by, I will keep on posting more  works which i will be continually be offering to God who gave me the skills, and to you who will be doing these too! :)

Failures don't plan to fail; they just fail to plan

Failures don't plan to fail; they just fail to plan. Good planning and hard work lead to prosperity, but hasty shortcuts lead to poverty. (Proverbs 21:5)

Your mind is the computer—and your life is the printout. If you don’t plan, your life will be based on your memories—and that’s tragic. Because your future will simply duplicate your past. -Bo Sanchez

A lot of people go through their lives with this in mind "Bahala na". Thinking, that God wants them to rely on Him for everything and let alone be the ultimate planner of their lives. This statement i believe is true but just to some extent. As far as I'm concerned we are given human minds, far more creative and decisive than brains of the other kinds, because God likes us to be in charge in planning how we take this ONE SHOT LIFE to the fullest. Plan your life, then let God bless it after. Pray for it, ask His guidance and make proficient actions to make your dreams come true. Planning is creating a non-existent, future reality in your mind. Imagination is limitless, so as the saying goes.. "Dream BIG".

How great it feels to do Gardening!

Have your ever heard your grandmother say."Talk to your plants, they listen to you"? Did you believe her? Well for me i honestly do remember this very clearly and i take it to consideration that i bring this attitude in everything i see. I know that they are alive and abundant in nurture and they too would like to make beautiful bearings for you. I believe that plants have feelings and they breathe and live like us, humans. They need to be taken cared of, put in a well conducive environment, and needs sunshine and love to grow.

This morning, this is exactly what I did, i spent time with my plants and did a pretty good job in gardening. My love for this started for since childhood, and my interest was re sparked when my high school best friend gave me a give, a plant Aloe Vera, placed in a plain and beautiful small pot almost 6 years ago. (Rare and unique gift to give isn't?) I loved it. And i thought it was the most special gift i have received yet in my life. It created such an impact to me for the fact that it's  not the cost that matters, but the thought that comes with what she has given you. (Thank you Bianca! Yes I'm actually talking about you! :) A plant as a gift, is not like other gifts that you can use today and don't know where you placed it the next day. Neither is it a gift to be consumed in a time-specific boundary.  I treat that special present to me with grace and proper care and it didn't take much of my effort to make it bountiful. Yes, it is still with me. And in our glorious garden is where it resides now. Or shall i say, there is where THEY reside now.:)

This morning i had the privilege to have the time to pay a visit to these amazing creations of God. I was stunned with how much they multiplied. Yes, it has been nearly 5-6 years since i first started taking care of it, and now i needed to have an assistant in transferring these aloe veras in different pots because placing them in just one container makes it look too crowded and just hinders the growth in the roots. Now i have 6 more pots to where they are now beautifully placed. One root for every pot. I had to gather new good soil where to plant these aloes and decorated them in front of our garden where the sun can really give good sunlight. I love them! a decade from now, i still am looking forward that they are still alive and continue to grow!

A memory of the past can really be stretched when taken good care!:)

Something to take note:

Aloe vera also called Aloe is a plant originally from Africa. The long, green leaves contain aloe gel and a sticky yellow residue called latex. Most commonly know uses of Aloe vera are burn healing, wound healing, sunburn, radiation-induced skin reactions, genital herpes. It is also used for ulcers, diabetes, immune support, constipation. Aloe vera also contains almost 75 known ingredients and more than 200 compounds that make it a potent medicinal herb. These include:
  • Enzymes that help in digestion and reduce inflammation
  • All vitamins except vitamin D
  • Minerals required for enzyme function
  • Long chain sugars to re-balance the digestive system
  • Saponins, which have anti-microbial effect
  • 20 of the 22 amino acids

Create a Life that Gets You Excited!

Have you ever felt like there’s one thing you were born to do, and you’re not doing it?

I don’t personally subscribe to the idea that I was born to do one specific thing, I believe there are certain paths that will provide a far greater sense of purpose and fulfillment than others.
I also believe it can be difficult to identify those paths when we’re out of touch with ourselves, divorced from our instincts, confused about our priorities, and overwhelmed by obstacles.

..Go back to your past and remove those constaints that were place on you by others.

Today, what I would like to share with you a powerful mindset.
 "You Become What You Think"
  1. Be loving toward everyone you meet.
  2. Forgive all who attempt to harm you.
  3. You become what you think.
  4. Look for ways to strengthen those who have less than you have.
  5. Always seek knowledge and truth.
  6. Always be honest.
  7. Never waste what you are given.
  8. Be grateful for all that you have.
  9. Develop a spirit of optimism.
  10. Have faith in something greater than yourself.
Little by little my attitude improved, and as my attitude improved, I began to enjoy my life more and more . The idea that "you become what you think" is a crucial and powerful mindset that is known by many, but represented by a few. Being scared is normal and you are in perfect shape. Nothing is wrong about you. What might be wrong, are the THINGS THAT SURROUNDS YOU. Consider that reinforcing a bad habit of working on negative ideas is a mortal sin to yourself.

Ways to use "You become what you think" to your advantage is first of all, be a POSITIVE PERSON. Think positively, Talk positively, Do positive things. Secondly, get rid of hindrances. Treat them as garbage that needs IMMEDIATE disposal. It doesn't mean you want to abandon those negative areas (let's be honest, some people can't get enough of holding us back) in your life; however it just means that you love yourself enough to look past the things that stops you from excelling.

TODAY'sAFFIRMATIONS

Grateful people get more of what they’re grateful for.

If we’re grateful for success, happiness, blessings and all the good things that comes our way, we’ll have more happiness and love. If we’re grateful for even the smallest good things that we encounter, may it be finding a penny along the road while going to work, or having a good time with friends and family, still doing a job that we are good at, or even still having food to be served to you on the meal table, these are all blessings we sometimes overlook and take for granted. The word 'granted' maybe similar to what we coin as 'wish'; which means to want, to desire, or to long for. However since God is very generous, he gives us blessings in abundance and we sometimes forget how it feels like having none of these.
I once read that being grateful goes hand in hand with how much more you'll receive. However, in the same way, 'grumbling people' get more of what they grumble about.

If you grumble about your problems, you’ll have more problems. If you grumble about lack, you'll be teeming more lack in your life. Don't you just feel overwhelmed at what God has done over the past years? Be grateful and be bountiful in giving it to other people, that you may be the medium of God to those who needs appreciation the most. My last year may have brought me a lot of struggles, and conflicts have arisen in different aspects in my life. Nonetheless, it was amazing to reap the least for it brought me to greater heights.

LIFE isSERVED

I have been thinking lately, how i would want to see myself when i look back, years from now. I may be 30 years old, have a well-fit body, long chocolate brown hair, and living my life to the fullest. I wonder though what I would be doing by that time. What drives me and motivates me and what is the kind of work i would be pursuing.  As for now, I am 21 years of age and I am in the process of soul-searching and determining how to combine my passions and energy in the "real world." I know it will be something revolving around  helping other people and connecting bridges of art, food, great lifestyle and travel. I definitely would keep a blog site to where i can share all the wonderful places, amazing food that will surely tantalize our senses, and interesting hot spots that will surely captivate venture-seeking minds.  I am geared towards my professional stability; moreover, I would like to put up an Art class for kids that will nurture and foster intelligent minds in the making. Creative juices combine!

I have read a book entitled, "The Five Secrets You Must Discover Before You Die."  This book is rich with anecdotes and insights that broaden your perspective on life and deepen your commitment to live your very best. There it says..you got to see your present as picturing yourself as an old lady/old man in a rocking chair, by the window near the porch. Alone as you are, you must see and feel, what makes you as a person at the time you are of that age (I imagined myself to be  70 years old by then). Being in the position to look back at your past successes (or failures),  you feel all the emotions that comes with everything you have done during your younger years. The years you spent during high school and college, the friends you chose to hang out with during your classes, the decisions you made after graduation, the people you chose to stick with early on, the ventures you tried and the people you shared moments with, the profession you did and the attitude and values that resided inside you.
All of these are HERE AND NOW. You are making your rear view mirror as pristine clear as possible by doing this. Makes sense doesn't it?
How ironic that people tend to focus living in the future when the present is very much alive before our eyes. Makes me say, " Everything I ever wanted in goodwill could have been done and limitations are only imaginations of the ridicule minds". God didn't make ignoble minds. These are distorted illusions of the people/things around us that  are insecure and so incapacitated to the fear of you, reaching your goals and being successful. How contemptible! Stand up, do your work excellently in all aspects. Life is served.

By this time i have decided to stick to posting blogs online to share my creativity and intuitive perspectives on everything around us. Cheers guys!

 Lots of Love, Margaret :)
